Financial & Business services values communication.   We have created a webpage which explains all the different ways to communicate with and receive communication from us.  We value reaching out to each of you with whom we conduct our business.  We have developed methods of communication using the technology available to us, and want you to use whichever methods are best for you to create a dynamic and useful dialog between FBS and our campus customers.

The new webpage has a link up in the Gold bar between CIS and FORMS, so it will be easy to find.  Check it out.  As always, if you have any questions,    Ask Us

New and Improved!  Financial and Business Services’ Internal Controls training has been updated with new content.  We will be “unveiling” this new workshop material on Tuesday, April 7 from 2-4 in INSCC Room 110.  Registration is still available!  Also, as a reminder, we have a 30 minute “roadshow” version that we will bring to your college or department for faculty and academic administrators.

Please take this opportunity to strongly encourage your new hires and/or part-time student employees to attend this important presentation.

If you have other Training questions, Ask Us!

As reported in an earlier news post, the Financial Web Apps (located in the FBS pagelet and FBS Admin pagelet) in the Campus Information System have moved to a different WEB Server.

As of today, March 13, 2009, ALL OLD Bookmarks  for  all U of U Web Applications (urls begin with www.acs.utah.edu/prod/financials, www.acs.utah.edu/prod/bin, and www.acs.utah.edu/prod/hrbin) will not work!

Since these applications are all located inside the CIS, it is always best to select the desired application from the appropriate CIS menu

Ask Us if you have any questions.

WACUBO Annual Meeting  As some of you know, the University belongs to an organization known as WACUBO (Western Association of College and University Business Officers)- a professional development organization whose membership consists of folks on the “business” side of University operations.  Check out their website at  http://www.wacubo.org/index.shtml

Each Spring, WACUBO holds an annual meeting, rotating through various major cities in the West as the host site.  This year, the annual meeting will be held here in Salt Lake City.  To get a flavor for the nature and scope of the meeting, which will be held on May 3-6, 2009 at the Grand America Hotel, please check out WACUBO’s annual meeting website at: http://www.wacubo.org/meet/meet.shtml  I’m writing to you today in my capacity as the Host Committee Chair for this annual meeting.  In my volunteer role, I coordinate all the activities and logistics of working with the hotel and the special events held in conjunction with the annual meeting.   I’m hoping that UofU business professionals, like yourselves, can rally around this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate at a very high level in this excellent professional development event.  Please consider coming to the annual meeting.  Registration is now open!

I am, of course, aware that Utah and the University are having budget troubles.  Your department may be limited in what you can do financially.  But I really feel that having this event here within a few blocks of campus is a wonderful chance for you to experience something that is an Investment, not an Expense – an Investment in you and in the University.  I can promise you that the speakers and topics will be timely, relevant, and thought-provoking.  I encourage you to support the University, as host institution, and the great city of Salt Lake, which will be on display  – and register for the annual meeting. The University is a member of WACUBO, so you would register using the “member” rate.   If you have any questions about your participation that I can help with – please give me a call.  Thank you in advance for your support and attendance.  I sincerely appreciate it.

(for WACUBO)

A new page has been added to the FBS Web presence that will allow users to know of any issues with FBS Web Applications.  If known, issues are listed on the new page. If you are experiencing any issue not listed, a link exists on the page to report the issues to FBS.  The link to the new page is a picture of a lifesaver (below). This lifesaver has been strategically placed in various places in the FBS Web presence as well as the FBS pagelet in CIS.

Financial and Business Services is excited to announce the addition of the “Payment Card Acceptance/eCommerce” pages to its Web Presence.  You can view the new content at http://fbs.admin.utah.edu/index.php/payment_card.  This additional information will be helpful for departments across the University,  as they engage in business transactions using either Payment Cards or eCommerce.

Financial and Business Services is pleased to announce two training opportunities that were recently added to the roster.  Internal Controls workshop will be held on November 10, from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.  This workshop is intended for business officers who are responsible for implementing internal controls in their areas and want to learn more about what contributes to an effective control environment.  Endowments 101 will be held on November 17, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  This workshop is intended for business officers and development professionals who would like to know more about endowments, endowment accounting, and current issues related to endowments.  An optional mini-session will follow for those interested in learning more about how to project endowment distribution income.  For information and registration, please go to the following website:

http://fbs.admin.utah.edu/index.php/training/

Also, for your information, mini-workshops (we’re calling them “roadshows”) on both topics (internal controls and endowments) are available on-demand and are geared toward academic administrators such as deans, chairs, and faculty.  These can be requested by contacting Theresa Ashman.

Two new FORMS pages have been added to the FBS web presence.  This will enable visitors to have access to all the FBS forms in one place.  The forms are sorted alphabetically and by department.  A FORMS link on the top row of the FBS website has been added.  This will make it easy to find the form you need especially if you are not sure which department to look in for that form.  This is similar to the FORMS pages in the FBS pagelet in CIS.  On September 15, 2008, the FORMS links on the FBS pagelet will be changed to direct users to the new FBS FORMS pages.
